Life Story  By Dirk Anderson ©April 1994

Do you stand in? Do you fit out?

The lightest whisper the loudest doubt can move you,

But neither heaven nor earth will prove you.

Can you believe? Can you be strong?

The words are right but the time is long and wearing;

As if the pages of your life were tearing in the wind, now...

You'll have to write your own;  You'll have to write your own;

You'll have to write your own life story.

Driving so blind. Soaring so deep -

Are you awake, or do you just keep pretending?

How many messages have you been blending?

So near away So far at hand -

Will you stop running and make your planned endeavor?

For whether you begin it now or cleverly avoid it.

CHORUS

When your words are water and the earth is stone,

How can rain leave a trace behind it?

Now the sun has risen and the wind has shown

That your meaning is where you bind it up and let it go;

Bind it up and let it go

Under your heart deep in control,

You hear the rock and you feel the souls are dancing -

How many people could you be entrancing?

Rivers of ink are pouring like flame;

This is a different and not an aimless power -

You'll see a second turn into a shower on the page when...

CHORUS

When your words are water and the earth is stone,

How can rain leave a trace behind it?

Now the sun has risen and the wind has shown

That your meaning is where you bind it up and let it go;

Bind it up and let it go.

ORPHAN/HOME WITHIN  © Frank Kelleher

A whisper of a shadow slipping through the pines,

Traced by sunbeams through the trees like the lines

Of a poem that I heard when I was very young -

Now it's gone.

With his voice I read to you

The poem that I wrote for you -‑

Read it for yourself,

It’s within you.

Now I must follow – that shadow may be mine,

I hear footsteps in the forest like the wind-chimes

Of a home-place that I knew when I was very young -

Now it's gone.

Before you were born

I prepared for you a home,

And for Myself a home

Within you.

Echoes of memories flow 'round me like a stream.

The music of the wind lulls me into a dream

Of a springtime in the meadow where I used to run –

Now it's gone.

The path I laid for you

Is still in front of you –

I am your Guide,

I’m within you.

In the shadow of my uncle, running to keep pace,

I'd followed in his footsteps, and though I couldn't see his face,

His words were soothing like the gentle winds of dawn –

Now they're gone.

With his voice I read to you

The poem that I wrote for you -

Read it for yourself,

It’s within you.

Lost like a child on a mountain side,

The sounds that beckon me are my only guide

To a hearth I came home to when I was very young -

Now it's gone.

Before you were born

I prepared for you a home,

And for Myself a home

Within you.

Fighting through this underbrush, sometimes on my knees,

I am trying to catch up with what is rustling the leaves.

Once I knew this path, now it's overgrown –

Now it’s gone.

The path I laid For you

Is still in front of you –

I am your Guide,

I’m within you.

Falling off a cliff I awake from my dream

To find my shadow lying next to me;

Birds are singing, leaves are laughing in the morning breeze –

I am home.

Your poem is a prayer to Me –

It lights the path along your way.

I’m closer than your life vein,

I’m within you.

Come Home © Frank Kelleher

Chorus:   When are you coming home?

   The war goes on and on;

   The yellow in the ribbon

   On our tree is gone.

I can’t sleep, so I’m writing you a letter –

One I’ll never send;

It’s just a way for me to cope

‘Til your tour of duty ends.

I stare at your picture next to our bed;

Sometimes I can hear you speak.

Your pillowcase glows from the moonlit window;

Amid the empty sheets.

Interlude:        I feel so lost and alone;

                        This house no longer feels like home;

                        To me you are the only one –

                        To them you’re just another pawn.

Chorus

Your parents call every weekend

To see how I’m getting along.

We talk about you and the family-

I pretend nothing is wrong.

At my bedtime you’re waking up in a world

Of car bombs and landmines;

The TV blares continuous nightmares;

I’m going out of my mind.

Interlude:        I don’t know if you’re dead or alive!

                        I don’t know how we’re going to survive!

                        I worry with every tick of the clock-

                        That you’ll be coming home in a box!

Chorus
